Chase is a goofy puppy! He loves everyone he meets and wants to meet he sees. He loves other dogs and will play with them any chance he gets. Since he is having a hard time going on walks, another dog in the house will half get that puppy energy out! Chase also loves his toys, bones, balls, he will entertain himself. He currently lives with cats and loves to chase them. It’s all play but it can be stressful at times for the poor cats. He loves all humans, big or small but because of his size and bouncy nature, he is best suited in a home with older kids.
Not long after Chase got in the rescue, it became apparent that something was wrong with his leg. He had severe hip dysplasia on the left hip and severe elbow dysplasia in his front right elbow. After consultation, Chase had two big surgeries in March: 1) an arthroplasty of the left hip (also known as a femoral head and neck osteotomy) and 2) a dynamic proximal ulnar osteotomy on the right elbow. The surgeries were successful but as a result, he will be at risk for
developing early joint issues (i.e. arthritis) and will need to stay on supplements for life to help delay the onset as much as possible. Chase will potentially need medications to control his arthritis much earlier in his life than other dogs. Chase has been in hydrotherapy since his surgery and swimming has been helping him rebuild his strength. A home that is willing to continue the hydrotherapy will be given preference in the adoption process. Chase will be able to go for walks and play like a normal dog but is not a candidate for highly active homes who want to take him on hikes, runs etc. He is also not a candidate for high impact sports such as agility. Chase has one more follow up appointment with his surgeon in a couple months in Montreal.
We have been working on his obedience training. He knows the basic commands, although he is a strong boy, he is coming along great on leash walking. He is house trained and crate trained. With a bit more obedience training, Chase could become a great therapy dog, he sure has the temperament for it!
If you are looking for a goofy, happy, cuddle bug, Chase is the right dog for you!
