Sputnik
Are you ready to embark on a lifetime friendship with the bestest pup? If so, let us introduce you to Sputnik, a one-year-old canine dynamo who’s ready to find his forever home! Sputnik is such a charming, endearing and outgoing pup – he will make the best companion for the right home!
Sputnik is the ultimate outdoor companion. Whether you’re planning a hike through the woods or a refreshing swim in the lake, Sputnik is always up for an adventure. His enthusiasm for the great outdoors is contagious, and you’ll find that there’s never a dull moment when Sputnik is around. Sputnik is most happy when he has the opportunity to play and explore off leash. He has excellent recall and is happy to explore on his own or in a pack of canine friends.
Sputnik absolutely adores the company of other dogs. He’s a true social butterfly who loves to engage in playful antics with his canine pals. While he’s friendly with dogs of all sizes, he can be a bit boisterous in his play and is best suited to live with dogs who are a bit more sturdy and closer to his size. Sputnik is a very good communicator with other dogs when introduced in a neutral setting. On leash, Sputnik can be a bit overzealous and will sometimes use his voice to let the other dogs know how excited he is. He means no harm but it can be a bit intimidating to other dogs at first. An experienced husky or GSD owner who understands that these breeds often “talk” to express themselves, is important.
Sputnik has lived with cats all his life and is open to living with cat-savvy feline friends in his forever home.
Sputnik’s love for the outdoors means he needs a safe and secure environment to roam freely. A fenced backyard is required to ensure he can run, play and explore freely. Consideration may be given to country homes without a fenced backyard as Sputnik does have very good recall. He does have some mild prey drive for small critters and birds but he is easily called back.
Sputnik is a very easy keeper once his energy needs are met. Sputnik is medium energy and requires off leash play every day to stay happy. Whether it’s an off leash trail walk or playing in the backyard with a canine friend, consistent exercise makes it easy to meet Sputnik’s energy needs. Sputnik is both crate and house trained making him an easy keeper. He is a bit of an opportunist and will counter surf if the opportunity and motivation presents itself. Since Sputnik is a bigger dog and the husky in him does come out occasionally, he requires a home where some barking/ husky talking is okay.
While Sputnik is very outgoing with people, he is not a candidate to live with young children. However, if you have teenage children who would like to participate in keeping Sputnik exercised and entertained, he may be a perfect match!
Sputnik’s athleticism and love for play make him an excellent candidate for recreational dog sports. He is exceptionally smart and very eager to work for his handler! Scent detection or dock diving may be an excellent fit for him!
Sputnik suffered a crush injury as a young puppy which resulted in a slight deformation on the left side of his skull. But don’t let that deter you—Sputnik is as resilient as they come and he has very minimal lasting effects. He recently underwent dental surgery to remove some tooth fragments from the injury and has recovered well. He does have some mobility limitations in his left shoulder but xrays show this is soft tissue (likely ligaments that are a bit too short) versus anything with the joint.
Are you the active and loving home that Sputnik has been dreaming of? If you can offer him a life filled with adventure, canine companionship, and the love he deserves, Sputnik is ready to make your home his forever playground. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to welcome this incredible dog into your life.
