Tennessee

Tennessee is part of our Recovery Adoption Dog (RAD) program and will come with a 1 month comprehensive training support program that has been curated to her needs. Adopters must be willing to fully participate in the training program and as such, the adoption fee once the training program has begun, is non-refundable. The training program is administered through our training partners at Pet-Intel.

Tennessee is an adorable little creature with a complicated personality. She is young, playful, silly, smart and a very sensitive. It’s her sensitivity and intellect that have caused difficulties for our little Tennessee as she’s proceeded through vital developmental stages. It only takes one meeting with ‘Tenny’ to know that her social intentions are good and she wants to make new friends. Unfortunately, her initially approach tends to be either to much (up on a lap and kissing faces) or too cautious (pacing the perimeter with hesitant jumps forward). She is slowing working on building her human social skills to find a happy medium.

Tennessee has demonstrated touch sensitivity and resource guarding behaviours. Her triggers are predictable and easily avoided. She is a sweet, snuggle-bug which can be confusing for her handlers when she ‘gets stuck’ and decides she had enough. Due to this, Tennessee needs a human who can resist those adorable puppy eyes and keep physical contact short and sweet as she works through her past and builds new skills.

Tenny is still learning how to have time alone and seems to be better in a crate then left free in a room. She makes some rather interesting noises so detached housing is required. Tennessee would be happy to live in a suburb or country home and although a fenced backyard is preferred, it is not required.

Tennessee has played with many dogs and demonstrates excellent play skills and the ability to read social cues. As such, Tennessee would be a good candidate to live with another friendly and playful dog. Tennessee is also excellent at settling independently, chewing her own toenails and finding her own fun. She is an easy keeper for the right home with ongoing commitment to her specific needs.
