Rutabaga

Rutabaga is an easy-going little dude with a wonderfully laid-back approach to life. He’s confident and comfortable with the world around him, but unlike some of his more adventurous siblings, Rutabaga is often perfectly happy to let the excitement come to him, especially if there’s a lap or a pair of welcoming arms involved.

This sweet boy absolutely loves his people. Rutabaga will happily snuggle into just about anyone’s arms and make himself comfortable. If those arms aren’t quite within reach, don’t worry, he has a solution for that too: climbing up your legs to politely inform you that you have forgotten to pick up the puppy.

Rutabaga isn’t quite as independent as some of his siblings and tends to prefer being closer to his people, but that doesn’t come from a lack of confidence. He approaches new experiences with an easygoing self-assurance and is comfortable with the world around him. He simply happens to think most experiences are better when shared with a human friend.

Rutabaga has been raised alongside his littermates and is comfortable interacting and playing with other dogs. He has also had exposure to cats in his foster home. As with any young puppy, his future family will need to continue teaching him appropriate manners with both canine and feline friends as he grows.

He was quick to catch on to using the litter pan and has continued to use it consistently. Formal house training and crate training have not yet begun, so his new family should be prepared to start those skills from the beginning and help him make the transition from puppy-pen life to living in a home.

Although formal training is still ahead of him, Rutabaga’s confidence, people-focused nature, and easygoing personality give him a lovely foundation. We’d love to see his future family continue introducing him thoughtfully to new people, places, sounds, surfaces, and experiences while using reward-based training to help him grow into a confident and well-mannered adult.

If you’re looking for a confident, laid-back little companion who is equally happy exploring the world or curling up in your arms, Rutabaga might just be your guy.

Additional notes

Dogs: Yes, to dogs who will be gentle with little pups and tolerant of normal puppy play, please! Cats: Possibly with friendly and dog-savvy cats. Rutabaga has been exposed to cats in his foster home and, like any young puppy, will need guidance learning appropriate feline manners. Kids: 8+ and dog-savvy as he may nibble in play and jump when excited. Housing type: Single or Townhome. Fenced Yard: Required for safe play in the city or a privately owned backyard green space for bathroom breaks. Special: Rutabaga is still very young and has not yet begun formal house or crate training, so he’ll need a home prepared for all the learning that comes with raising a puppy. He has been consistently using a litter pan in his foster home and was quick to figure it out, giving him a great foundation for future house training. He’ll need time, consistency, patience, and plenty of positive reinforcement as he learns the ropes. Location: We’re looking for a home in or around the Ottawa area, as this puppy still has outstanding veterinary care included in the adoption fee to complete at our veterinary partner in West Ottawa, which a new home will be required to attend. Adoption Fee: $900 None of our dogs are candidates for public dog parks due to safety and risk, so if these are important to you, please do not apply. Only applicants selected as the best match will be contacted.
