Rocky

Rocky is a funny little duckling with a big personality packed into a little body! He can be clumsy, quirky, and full of character, his foster family says he thinks he’s a big guard dog stuck in a small one. He turns heads on walks thanks to his handsome brindle coat, and he’s a fast learner, especially when treats are on the line.

Rocky is very outgoing and energetic, he loves to play fetch, soak up the sun outside, and go for car rides (where he likes to “eat the wind,” which never fails to get a laugh). He also enjoys trips to the park, has taken a swim in a pool, and adores his bone and stuffed animals. He can be a bit stubborn at times, but he’s affectionate and loves being close to his people, he’s even proven himself to be a total cuddle bug when given the chance to snuggle up in bed.

Rocky is medium-to-high energy and does best with frequent walks throughout the day rather than one long one. He’s doing really well on leash and could make a great jogging partner with the right training. He knows “sit” and a leash cue for not pulling, is learning not to jump up, and will come when called (though sometimes it takes a couple of tries!). He may bark when someone comes to the door but settles quickly once he knows they’re safe. He’s almost fully house-trained (frequent walks help him stay accident-free) and is crate trained for both day and night, though he does best when he can see his person.

Rocky can have some big feelings when it comes to sharing attention. He’s shown some jealousy around his foster’s cat when she’s close to his person. Walks with other dogs on leash have gone great with a slow introduction. He does well in his crate and settles best when he’s not left alone for too long, up to about 6 hours max, with a midday break preferred. Because of this, he’d do great as an office dog whose person can bring him along or check in during the day.

With kids, Rocky is very friendly and social but like many dogs, he needs his space respected. He’s great at communicating when he doesn’t want to be touched or wants to be left alone, though he stays calm if a toy, treat, or food is taken from him. His foster family has two daughters, ages 7 and 11. Given this, Rocky is best suited to a home with older, dog-savvy kids or an adult-only household.

Rocky can be adopted into a home with other animals with a slow, thoughtful introduction, and would do best paired with a confident, non-timid dog.
