Amour

French for ‘love’, Amour is a quiet, loving, large-breed girl. She is smaller (at 28kgs) than she looks but does showcase some Great Dane characteristics. She likes to nap nearby while you work or relax, but can be left alone, in her crate, without a fuss.
This good girl loves dogs and seems to want to play with them all. Recently, Amour reacts with excitement more to other dogs who are also in an excited state, and is much calmer passing dogs who are giving off a balanced energy. Her common sense is starting to show. With consistency, she won’t pull to meet any dogs. Other than that and interest in wildlife, she’s an excellent loose-leash walker.

Amour gets compliments everyday on her good looks and good behaviour, including from guests in her foster home. She has been approached by people of many shapes, sizes, and ages, including a toddler, and takes direction well to have an appropriate greeting. Like most dogs she responds to the energy of the person, so the calmer, quieter the greeter, the more successful. When a toddler wanted to play, she was receptive, but was stopped easily for petting too, and if strangers don’t respect her space, she’s polite and simply backs away.

She has lived with kids before, and could possibly live with older kids who have lived with a large dog, and who will give her space when she needs it. If no fenced-in private yard is available, Amour must be secured on a long line when outside, keeping in mind she has a high prey-drive.

Amour has previously lived with another dog in the home, but could enjoy a one-dog home. She doesn’t like sharing her toys with other canine friends and separated feeding is required. Amour has been tested with cats and is looking for a cat-free home.

Fully house-trained and crate-trained, Amour can easily rest for 12 hours in her crate overnight, in addition to many hours of naps during the day, in or out of the crate.

Amour is learning to become the best girl she can be with one-on-one training. Her foster parent (a dog trainer) would like to provide the adopting family with multiple training sessions and thorough instructions to help Amour transition as smoothly as possible.
