Deacon

Deacon is an 8-year-young Lab/Retriever mix with a soul made of sunshine and a heart permanently set to “people.” He is the kind of dog who doesn’t just live with you, he chooses you. Every day. Repeatedly. Preferably from your lap.
Deacon is wonderfully social, deeply affectionate, and thrives on human connection. He responds quickly to his name, making recall a breeze, and he looks to his people for guidance when encountering new places or situations. He’s calm, thoughtful, and incredibly tuned in, the kind of dog who checks in with your eyes before deciding what comes next. He has been good with young children and regularly spends time handling their presence with gentleness and patience.
Deacon loves his walks and enjoys exploring anywhere his foster family drives. New neighborhoods, new trails, new smells, it’s all part of his joy of discovery. He also loves a good game of fetch and will happily chase down whatever you throw, though he’s still perfecting the “drop” part of the deal. Proof that yes, old dogs can absolutely learn new tricks.
And cars? Deacon is a car enthusiast. If a door is open, he’s ready to hop in. Destination optional.
Although Deacon lives with other dogs, he can bark at unfamiliar dogs, sometimes pulling, but he responds well to redirection and thoughtful handling. His foster family is actively working on this with positive strategies, and he is a pleasure to walk with management in place. He would prefer a home where someone works from home or is generally around. When left alone, he becomes unsettled but is not destructive. His reunion celebrations, however, are legendary.
Deacon is entering his senior years gracefully and benefits from mindful care, regular walks, and lots of closeness.  He believes every open car door is an invitation, every walk is an adventure.
