Ella Fitzgerald

Introducing sweet Ella!

Ella is sweet as pie with a touch of goofiness that makes her incredibly endearing. She’s eager to please and responds well to guidance; she truly wants to make her people happy. While she can be a little shy in new situations, her gentle, affectionate nature shines through once she feels comfortable.

Ella can comfortably stay home alone while you’re at work. She definitely prefers when her people are around more often or on a hybrid schedule, but she’s pretty adaptable either way. She’s usually on her own for a full office day about once a week, and with plenty of puzzle toys to keep her busy, she does great! Ella is both house trained and crate trained, and she handles alone time like a champ. She might let out a little protest sigh when you leave, but she settles quickly and is content to nap or relax. She happily sleeps in her crate at night and enjoys her meals in there too.

Ella is a solid medium-energy dog with a great balance of go and chill. She’s always up for as many walks as you’re willing to take—bonus points if there’s a squirrel to chase (though her leash manners are still catching up to her enthusiasm for wildlife). She absolutely needs a few good walks or play sessions outdoors each day to keep her smiling. That said, Ella is also a world-class snuggler. Once she’s had her outside time, she’s more than happy to curl up next to you, or snooze on her own. She shows real promise for dog sports like agility thanks to her smarts and eagerness to learn. If she ever learns to ignore the siren call of squirrels, she might just make a great jogging partner too.

She is still learning that other dogs can be safe and friendly, and can be reactive on leash at times. With continued positive reinforcement and patient handling, she’s making steady progress in building her confidence. Given Ella’s high prey drive and leash reactivity, she’d do best with a confident owner, preferably someone with previous dog experience. Continuing her reactive dog training would be especially helpful. She’s made great progress so far, and with a bit more time and patience, she could likely become much more comfortable and well-socialized.

Ella’s got her basic obedience down pat and then some! She knows sit, down, stay, come, paw, touch, front, find it, and is working on roll over. Her house manners are generally great. She doesn’t beg at the table and knows dinner time isn’t her time. That said, if you leave a juicy steak unattended on a low coffee table… well, let’s just say she might take that as an open invitation. She’s not just smart, she’s got personality and charisma for days.

Ella is always up for an outdoor adventure and never says no to a good stroll. She spends plenty of time staring out the back door, plotting her next bunny chase, and loves just hanging out in the yard with her people or solo. Toys aren’t really her thing, except for the occasional tug-of-war challenge. Puzzle toys and lick mats, especially those with dog-safe peanut butter involved, are her absolute favorite brain workout. We also recently discovered she can swim, though she’d clearly rather keep her paws dry. Oh, and belly rubs? Always a top activity in her book.

Ella does not live with children but has significant time with older children visitors in her foster home. With slow and proper introductions we think Ella would love it to have more humans to snuggle with in her forever home! One of her favourite activities is cuddling on the couch with them for movie nights!

Ella also does well in the car and is always up for an adventure! She is looking for a forever home who will continue to support her confidence building and training. She really is so wonderful we can’t say enough good things about her! Does she sound like a good fit for your home?
