Mildred

Mildred (Millie) is a sweet and loving girl. She is a very pretty little spaniel mix. Millie was found abandoned and terrified in an apartment and brought to a shelter where she contracted parvovirus and almost died. She has thankfully recovered (isolation period is over) and is healthy and happy now. Millie is very loyal and affectionate to her primary caregiver(s) but can be somewhat fearful of new people. She presently lives in a quiet detached house and has become confident and playful inside, but outside while on leashed walks, the world seems quite scary for her.  She does bark at new people and dogs when on walks and will need short walks close to home to build her confidence.

Millie can tolerate being crated during the day, she would appreciate a mid-day pee break and having someone home at least part-time would be preferred. She is housetrained but needs to be let out for breaks every 4 hours or so during the day.

Millie is learning how to play and you can tell she’s starting to really enjoy life again.  She is exuberant and bouncy when excited and always makes her person feel very special.  She has a medium amount of energy and will need an interactive person in her life to play with!

Millie doesn’t live with cats at present but has met neighbourhood cats. With slow intros it is probable that she could live with a dog savvy cat. As Millie is quite timid – small children or loud noises scare her and she could become barky in a more chaotic environment. While Millie has not yet encountered a lot of other dogs, it might be beneficial to have another calm dog in the home to help  Millie learn from another dog.

Overall  Millie is a beautiful, affectionate, well behaved, smart and eager-to-please young dog with plenty of energy who is calm and loving in a quiet environment. She will need help feeling brave when meeting new people, navigating traffic, and adapting to new situations.  We know a very loving person or couple is out there, eager to make  Millie a priority.  And truly, she deserves that after all she’s been through!
