Moby

Moby is a sweet, silly, and big boy that is not aware of his own size.  He still behaves like a puppy at heart, and likely will for some time, which means he has a lot of growing and learning to do!  He is a super smart guy, full of excited energy and needs the structure of a routine, proper exercise and positive reinforcement to be a good boy!  With the right calm person or people, this guy is the most loving dog you can imagine.  He catches on quickly with repetition and reinforcement and would excel with a person dedicated to continuing his training.  Once he establishes trust with his person, he is quite in tune with you, and if you are sad, or just in a bad mood, he will go out of his way to give you cuddles and lay his head on your lap until you feel at peace again.  It’s an amazing thing to behold.

When Moby meets new dogs in the home, he is initially insecure which translates to barking at the other dog.  With slow introductions, he can be the best buddy to most dogs, even little ones for whom he can be the best big brother. He is a mix of insecurity and anxious energy which does not lend well to most dog-to-dog introductions.  If there is another dog in the home, he may need more than one meet and greet to be matched and we are dedicated to this process for him.  Out and about on walks, Moby is not reactive seeing dogs, just excited.  We do feel he would be happy to have a canine buddy in the home but do not feel this is required with an active home.

Moby is crate trained and house trained.  He is not hyper, but does have energy.  He pulls on leash initially and will exert lots of excitement at the sight of outdoor critters like rabbits and squirrels. Bringing treats along will help to get his focus back on you and in fact, he is super food motivated which helps a lot with his training!  He will make sure you stay fit with a couple 30-minute walks per day, and if you add in some play time, this combo will go a long way to keeping him happy.  Playing with toys with his person, going for leashed adventures, and then finding a good sun ray on the floor for a nap is the perfect day for Moby.

This beautiful boy will need a dedicated person, but with the right person, this guy will be the most amazing heart-dog.  He is already a gem to us, and with a little polishing and the right placement, he will shine bright!

Additional notes

  • Dogs: We think Moby is okay as an only dog.  He is insecure when first meeting a dog.  Any home with another dog must be willing to do slow introductions.  Once he is friends with a dog, he is best buds.  He does play rough-and-tumble with bigger dogs.
  • Cats: No, thank you – unknown.
  • Kids: Teens and up, but only due to his size and jumping up.
  • Housing Type: Single home or Country home.
  • Fenced Yard: Required.  Having lots of space for running and playing off leash is important for this boy.
  • Special: He would love someone home more often, of course, but can be okay for up to 3 full work days per week as long as he is properly exercised before you leave.  He is looking for a home in the Ottawa or surrounding area. He is not a candidate for dog parks so if these are important to you, please do not apply.  Large dog experience, or willingness to learn is a MUST.
