Roscoe

Looking for your ride-or-die, partner-in-crime, best bud? Roscoe is on the hunt for his new best friend because his favourite thing in life is to be with his people – whether adventuring, doing chores, or lying on the couch.

Roscoe is an approximately 2 year old mixed breed dog who loves to play tug, go on adventures, and snuggle up to you at the end of the day. He is a champion office companion who will snooze at your feet while you’re working and is ready to remind you to leave your computer when walk-time rolls around. While he’d prefer to have you at home always, he does well in his crate and can be left for a full workday. He would be ok with someone following a hybrid office schedule but he would not thrive in a house where he is left 5 days a week because having you around is so important to him. He will bark for a few minutes as you leave the house but settles down quickly once you’re gone.

He is of medium to high energy and will need someone who is willing to take him for at least two 30+ minute walks a day. He is respectful of other dogs and enjoys meeting them on walks. He lacks manners when meeting people on walks, and will bark at strangers.  His foster mum has been working on this with reinforcement of boundaries and distraction.

He would enjoy living with a laid-back canine companion but would be equally ok living as the only dog. He has not been officially tested with cats but he has done well meeting a dog-savvy cat recently so we think he may be ok in a household with a cat.

Roscoe is not a fan of bikes and anything that moves quickly (true to that herding dog instinct) so reinforcement that moving objects are not sheep that need herding will be important. He insecure meeting strangers and does require slower intros, but he does love visitors once he knows them. Roscoe is not comfortable around children and for this reason, he cannot be adopted into a home with small children or visiting small children, or with people planning to have children in the future.

Roscoe is a joyful, boisterous, loving dog who makes his people the centre of his world. He needs someone who can provide consistent boundaries to be the best dog that he can be.  He would love to do dog sports or rally obedience.
